Adelaide or "Adela" was an actress CO, described as a slim brunette, ex drama student at Old Vic. She felt both sides in the war war were wrong, did gardening, amd agreed to fire watch when father explained it was not releasing another man.
Her father Rear Admiral James Vandeleur Creagh (1883 – 1956), DSO, Royal Navy destroyer commander, testified to her sincerity despite emphatically disagreeing.
Judge Hargreaves thought Adelaide ‘sincere but vague’.

Her case was head at Fulham on 20/7/1942 rejected. On appeal, conditional exemption granted to Adelaide. Her father said she had sacrificed friends & material pleasures & shown courage worthy of her clan which had bred fighters for 16 centuries’ .
