Drake, George Laurence (28), 24 Temple Rhydding Drive, Baildon, grocery traveller, old boy of Saenlt high School, Shipley, LE 2/7 40 land work, BO 3/7/40 6, YP 3/7 p6; after work at Sir Bjamin Davidson’s farm at Nun Appleton he spent 18 months from march 43 to june 44 as volunteer ‘victim’ for scabies experiments for Medical Research Council (under Ministry of Health) at Broomfield , Sheffield for 100 days had 104 burrowing mites on wrist and arm 1 hour per night sleep due to irritation, non-smoker (smokers found some solace), found solace in violent onslaughts in his garden, diet excluded vitamin A & was mainly potatoes, parsnips , beetroot & bread with special margarine, later vitamin C exclude on shipwreck diet with no liquids & only 500 grams of bread, now an expert on scabies & helping to examine infected children; also doing this for 18 months as COs were Harold Garling, 2 Nab Wood Grove, Shipley & Bernard Hicken of Halifax who had to leave early due to serious illness, BO 29/8/44 p3
