Jones, John Edward, Welsh Nationalist Party sec & organiser since 1930, gave up good teaching post for this work, previously sec of N Wales University branch of WNP at Bangor & later London branch, objected as Welshman as every nation has a right to life, England’s treatment of Wales was unjust & oppressive, intending to exterminate Welsh nation, claimed he came within the Act’s definition of a CO, also religious & moral objections but would not go so far as to oppose every possible war, the fight for freedom of Wales & well -being of fellow countrymen was part of his Christian principles, CAW 10/12/40 rejected after lengthy consideration, could appeal, LDP 11/12/40 p4, NWWN 12/12/40 p6, Caernarvon Magistrates c29/4/42 £5 for refusing medical 4 times, CO rejected at LT & refused by AT, medical would violate his CO & be unloyal to his own nation’s courts, at first court appearance, claimed Magistrates were not obliged to send him for medical, if he joined England's forces he would be 'a despised Quisling', cited cases of political COs exempted, quoted Judge Frank Davies 'we will grant exemption to COs of all types who are genuine' & Ernest Brown 2/40 stating that until then 4% of COs political, the local tribunal had unhesitatingly accepted his objection as completely honest, crowd of Welsh Nationalists cheered at the verdict
